The region's most complete tour in a single day: it combines La Carbonera, the largest and best-preserved wax palm sanctuary in the region and the world's most extensive forest of our national tree, with the geological power of the Cerro Machín volcano: its fumaroles, stalagmites, and natural hot springs, passing through Toche, the old-time village.
The adventure begins in Salento in the traditional Jeep Willys along the Camino Nacional, passing viewpoints, small waterfalls, and traditional farms, up to Alto de La Línea, where the temperature drops and fog wraps the landscape. With more than 10 attractions and a bilingual guide, it's an intense and memorable experience, ideal for those who want to see it all in one day.
Tour Details
What will you experience?
You leave Salento by Jeep along the Camino Nacional, stopping at natural viewpoints, small waterfalls, and traditional farms. You climb up to the vantage points of Nevado del Tolima and Paramillo del Quindío (visible from the road when it's not foggy) and cross the Alto de La Línea, where temperatures can drop to 7°C (45°F) amid thick fog.
You descend to La Carbonera to walk through the world's largest wax palm forest, a restricted area you'll explore almost privately. You continue to Toche, a village from times gone by, where you enjoy a country-style breakfast, and then reach Cerro Volcán Machín to discover its natural surroundings and its fumaroles, the vents where steam rises from the volcano.
The day continues at the natural hot springs farm, where you can soak in the thermal pools, and in the lower area with stalagmites and other formations. After a country-style lunch, you return to Salento with the satisfaction of having experienced one of the most complete tours in the Coffee Region.
Difficulty level and fitness
This is a moderate tour: much of it is done by vehicle and the hiking is mostly easy, with one stretch climbing more steeply up the mountain to a viewpoint. It's not recommended for babies or very young children due to the length of the day; travelers with reduced mobility can do a version that skips the more demanding sections. Keep in mind the cold and altitude at La Línea.
Departure times
We offer several departure times throughout the morning so you can choose the one that best suits your pace; you can select an available time when booking. Since this is a full-day tour, it starts early and requires advance booking (no same-day ticket sales). We recommend arriving 10 minutes before the start to make the most of your day.
