Local Immersion · Shared transportation
Two daily departures: 7:15 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. in front of the Church of Salento, Quindío (“Parroquia del Carmen”).
This tour is part of our Local Immersion line: it uses shared public transportation (the traditional Jeep Willys of the local cooperative) instead of our private transportation. That way, we pass the savings directly on to you, while keeping the same quality of guiding by local experts.
Please note that there may be wait times and lines depending on the cooperative's dispatch schedule, especially during high season and on weekends, and that you'll share the ride with other travelers. If you prefer exact schedules, no waiting and 100% controlled logistics, we recommend our Premium version with private transportation.
Discover the essence of Quindío on a journey designed to collect Colombia's best landscapes in a single day: from the mystique of Valle del Cocora to the timeless charm of Filandia. With shared transportation in the iconic Jeep Willys and a flexible itinerary, you'll enjoy a day where comfort and natural beauty take center stage.
It's the perfect balance between adventure and contemplation. You start by feeling the mountain breeze on your way to the home of the wax palm, explore its most photogenic spots, enjoy local cuisine, and end the day strolling the colorful streets of Filandia, one of the most beautiful towns in Quindío.

Departure times
We have two daily departures: 7:15 a.m. and 8:15 a.m., from in front of the Salento Church (“Parroquia del Carmen”). Please note that this activity requires advance booking to guarantee your spot and coordinate transportation and logistics. We recommend arriving 10 minutes early to make the most of the day.
What to bring and tips
The day starts with a meetup in front of the Church of Salento (“Parroquia del Carmen”) at your departure time (7:15 or 8:15 a.m.). We'll board a shared Jeep Willys, the signature vehicle of our culture, for a ride of about 25 minutes to Valle del Cocora, enjoying the transition from town to the green mountains of Quindío.
Once in the valley, we'll get ready for a 30-minute guided horseback ride. This ride is special because it takes us off the usual trails to cross the Cárdenas Creek and discover a small natural waterfall hidden in the vegetation. It's the perfect moment to connect with the rhythm of nature and capture unique photos on horseback.
We begin a guided 2- to 3-hour hike (fully adapted to your pace and fitness level). We'll climb trails that wind among the tallest wax palms in the world. Along the way, our expert guide will make strategic stops to explain the importance of this ecosystem and the history of Morrogacho Hill, while we enjoy an unmatched panoramic view of the canyon.
We'll set aside dedicated time to visit the themed structures designed to frame the beauty of the surroundings. You can get your best shots at the Condor's Nest, the Puma, the Giant Hand, the Colombian flag, and the iconic Cocora sign, ensuring high-quality visual memories.
We'll take a break to treat your taste buds to a typical regional lunch. The house specialty is rainbow trout served on a giant patacón, with rice, fresh salad, and natural lemonade. For those who prefer other options, we offer high-quality cuts of beef, pork, or chicken, as well as vegetarian dishes made with fresh local ingredients.
We'll head to the charming town of Filandia. We'll visit the famous Colina Iluminada Viewpoint for a 360-degree view of the department. We'll stroll its streets "frozen in time," admiring the Antioquian colonization architecture and visiting the cozy Casa Encanto, a place that pays tribute to the magic of our traditions.
We'll end the day with a comfortable ride back to Salento, dropping you off at the starting point or at your accommodation, with the satisfaction of having lived a truly authentic coffee-country day.

It's moderate and flexible. The hike to the viewpoints takes 2 to 3 hours, but the pace and distance are adjusted to your preference and fitness level. You don't need to be an experienced hiker to enjoy it.
The horseback ride is optional. If you choose to do it, it lasts about 30 minutes, crosses the Cárdenas Creek at a shallow point, and you're always accompanied by an experienced muleteer. If you'd rather not ride, you can walk that section.
