The Coffee Region packs palm-covered mountains, coffee farms, colonial towns, and hot springs into a small area. With five days and Salento as your base, you can see the highlights without spending the trip on the road. This is the itinerary we recommend.
Why Use Salento as a Base
Salento is half an hour from Valle del Cocora and a short distance from Filandia, the coffee farms, and other destinations in Quindío. Sleeping in one place means you don't have to change lodgings every night, and you can leave early for each plan. If it's your first time, also check what to do in Salento.
Day 1: Valle del Cocora
Start with the most iconic. Head to Valle del Cocora early to walk among the wax palms under the clearest sky. Depending on your energy, choose a short walk or the long route to the Hummingbird House. You'll find all the transportation options in how to get to Valle del Cocora, and the plans in tours in Valle del Cocora. In the afternoon, stroll down Calle Real in Salento.
Day 2: The World of Coffee
Spend the day understanding why this region is famous worldwide. Visit a coffee farm to learn the process from bean to cup, and finish with a tasting. There are traditional options and more complete experiences in coffee tours in Salento. If you love chocolate, you can also add a cacao tour.
Day 3: Filandia and Quindío's Nature
Filandia is another of the region's most beautiful towns, with colorful houses, a handcraft tradition, and a viewpoint overlooking several departments. You can pair it with a nature outing, such as the howler monkey watching tour. More ideas in the plans in Filandia.
Day 4: La Carbonera
For the fourth day, a landscape few travelers know: La Carbonera, the largest wax palm sanctuary, in Tolima. It's a full day that starts very early. Read what La Carbonera is and check the options from Salento.

Close the trip with a day of rest at the hot springs of Santa Rosa de Cabal, in Risaralda: hot waters surrounded by mountains and waterfalls, ideal after several days of hiking. Check the Santa Rosa hot springs plan.
