The All-Inclusive Valle del Cocora and Salento Package is designed so you can experience the best of Quindío in a single trip, worry-free. We handle local transportation, entrance fees, the horseback ride, lunch and your hotel night; all you have to do is enjoy. In one package, you'll ride among waterfalls, walk beneath the world's tallest wax palms —which exceed 60 meters and only grow in this region of the Andes— and end the day relaxing in Salento, one of the prettiest and most traditional towns in the Coffee Region.
It's the perfect balance of adventure, photography and relaxation. Ideal if you're traveling as a couple, with family or with friends and want an authentic yet comfortable experience: nature in the morning, great food at midday and a quiet night in a private hotel to recharge. And since we know every traveler is different, the package is flexible: you choose whether to start the adventure as soon as you arrive or rest first and do the tour the next day.
The day begins in Valle del Cocora, where your horse awaits for a gentle guided ride. You'll cross the Quindío River and continue through pastures and forest to a hidden waterfall, a stretch designed for all levels, even if it's your first time in the saddle. On the way back, you'll walk through the heart of the valley to admire the wax palms up close—Colombia's national tree—rising like green columns above the mist.
You'll have time for photos at the most iconic spots: the Hand of Princess Cocora reaching out over the green abyss, the classic Jeep Willys —a symbol of coffee culture— and lookouts with 360° views over the entire valley. At midday it's time for the food: a traditional lunch starring trout on a giant patacón, with beef, chicken or vegetarian options.
In the afternoon the plan moves to Salento. You'll head up to the Ecoparque Mirador and the Alto de la Cruz to say goodbye to the valley from above, walk down the stairs to the colorful Calle Real and enjoy free time to explore its specialty cafés and craft shops before settling into your hotel for a fully restful night.
Every traveler is different, so you decide how to organize your plan:
Your rest is guaranteed: we skip shared rooms and select accommodations with a private room, en-suite bathroom, housekeeping and the warmth typical of the Coffee Region. Depending on availability, you'll stay at:
Tip: book in advance and confirm the number of people so we can coordinate lodging and transportation.
Want to stay an extra night, add a coffee tour or visit the hot springs? At Cocoratours we specialize in designing custom trips. Tell us your idea —dates, number of people and what you'd like to experience— and we'll make it happen.
Reception and Welcome: We meet at our office in Salento. Here we welcome you, store your luggage, and give you a brief talk about the biodiversity of the area you're about to visit.
Ride to the Valley: Departure in traditional transportation to Valle del Cocora. Along the way, you'll enjoy the transition from the town landscape to the stunning green of the mountains.
Preparation and Getting to Know Your Horse: Once in the valley, we pair you with your trail companion. Our horses are gentle and know the terrain well, ideal for first-time riders.
Horseback Ride Across the Water: We start the ride by crossing the crystal-clear waters of the Quindío River. Feeling the river's strength and the fresh air is a truly unique sensory experience.
The Hidden Waterfall: Arrival at a natural waterfall surrounded by lush vegetation. A peaceful spot, perfect for your first photos and for connecting with the sounds of the forest.
The Forest of Giants: Walk along the main trails to admire the world's tallest Wax Palms, a landscape straight out of a dream.
Viewpoints and Photo Spots Route: You'll have plenty of time to enjoy and take pictures at the iconic structures:
The Hand of Princess Cocora: A breathtaking view over the green abyss.
The Jeep Willys: A symbol of our coffee culture.
360° Views: Strategic spots to take in the full scale of the valley.
Local Feast: You'll enjoy a traditional lunch at a selected restaurant. The specialty is Trout on a Giant Patacón, but you can also choose premium meats or the vegetarian dish of the day.
Note: If you prefer to order à la carte, Cocoratours covers 50% to 80% of your order.
Return to Town: Back to Salento to round out the experience with a cultural touch.
Mini Viewpoint Tour: Walk to Ecoparque Mirador and Alto de la Cruz to say goodbye to the valley from above.
A Walk Down History: We'll head down the main staircase to the iconic Calle Real.
Exploring the Town: We finish in the shopping and handicraft area. It's the perfect time to browse specialty coffee and craft shops before heading to your hotel for a well-deserved rest.
Not at all! Our horses are gentle Creole breeds, fully accustomed to the Valley's trails. Before starting, you'll get a basic riding briefing. Plus, the river and waterfall section is beginner level, ideal for enjoying worry-free even if it's your first time in the saddle.
The weather in Valle del Cocora is changeable. We recommend dressing in layers: a comfortable T-shirt, a light or waterproof jacket, and long pants (essential for the horseback ride). Wear closed-toe shoes with good grip. Don't forget sunscreen, insect repellent, and of course your camera or phone with plenty of battery.
We want you to eat what you really enjoy. The plan includes the traditional lunch of the day (trout, beef, pork, or vegetarian). If you'd rather choose a different dish from the restaurant's regular menu, Cocoratours covers 50% to 80% of that dish's price, depending on the option selected. That way, you'll always get the flavor you love!
Don't worry about your bags! If you choose Option 1 (arriving straight to the tour), we have a secure physical office in Salento where we store your luggage at no extra cost. That way, you can enjoy the horseback ride and the forest freely and travel light.
We work with a network of partner hotels in Salento, and rooms are assigned based on availability at the time of booking. In every case, we guarantee a private room with an en-suite bathroom and excellent ratings from our travelers. You can see the lodging options in the “Hotel types” section of the description.
It's a low-to-moderate intensity activity. The spots (The Hand, the Jeep, etc.) are in accessible areas, though there are some natural slopes. The best part of our plan is that there's no rush: the itinerary is flexible so you can walk at your own pace and take all the photos you want without feeling pressured.
Yes. Since this plan includes lodging or camping, cancellation is free up to 3 days (72 hours) before the start: we refund 100% of what you paid, with no fees. You can also change the date at no cost with 3 or more days' notice, subject to availability. With less than 3 days' notice, or if you don't show up, the booking is non-refundable.
